Trailmark field leaders are responsible for safely co-leading school aged teenagers. Successful candidates will be at least 21 years of age, possess some outdoor adventure experience as well as a strong enthusiasm for the outdoor adventure and for mentoring young adults. TM field-staff work hard, often with long days, challenging overnights, and full seasons of work. The job requires field-staff to be flexible, communicate well with others, have enthusiasm towards outdoor adventures, and most of all patience! You may also find yourself leading trips in some of the most spectacular wilderness settings in the Northeast, Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. Making even the hardest day at work, well worth the amazing experience.

Additional duties include driving 12-15 passenger vans often with boat trailers, transporting participants and equipment, completing comprehensive trip reports, assisting with packing and unpacking, organizing and cleaning equipment, before and after all programs.

Staff are hired based on their judgment, teaching skills, experience, enthusiasm, ability and desire to learn outdoor technical, group management, and facilitation skills.

Field Staff Positions

Trailmark Instructor: Trailmark instructors are hired to lead one to three week expeditions. Applicants are chosen based on an individual’s experience, certifications, and facilitation skills.

Qualifications

Experience leading expedition style programs and/or personal outdoor knowledge

You must be 21 years of age to apply for an Instructor position

You must have a clean driving record (DMV and criminal background checks will follow interview)

New hires must attend trainings that apply to their seasonal commitment

TMW's current minimum first-aid standard is: American Red Cross First-Aid/AED/CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Wilderness First-Aid (SOLO), ACA Essentials of River Canoeing, ACA Essentials of Kayak Touring and ARC Lifeguard w/ waterfront module training. (These certifications will be offered "free of charge" for employees who commit to the 2008 season.)

Compensation

At-Will seasonal employment

Industry competitive Per-Diem rates are based on education, seniority, and field experience

Limited employee housing available for staff that contract for a full season

Food provided on all overnight trips

TMW provides (and requires) extensive training in specific program related skills including Boating, Wilderness First-aid, CPR, and Lifeguarding

Our staff members are dynamic, energetic people committed to creating personal growth opportunities for youth in the outdoors. They come from many different professional backgrounds including other outdoor education companies, school teachers, commercial outdoor guides, adventure companies, YMCAs, local nature centers, and a host of other places.
